Phone overheating in your car? What to do before driving on

Your phone feels hot and an app stops responding during a shift. That alone does not identify the cause. Separate two jobs: take care of the device first, then investigate the app problem. Make checks only while safely parked.

Do not keep a shift going at any cost. Follow the manufacturer's warnings and resume only when you can safely use essential apps. Changing permissions or reading modes is not a diagnosis of overheating.

Include the surroundings in your investigation

Samsung lists navigation in direct sunlight inside a car among the situations that can make a Galaxy phone hot.Source: Samsung Portugal: preventing Galaxy overheating (Portuguese).

That is a possibility, not a diagnosis of your case. Note where the phone was and whether a temperature warning appeared. A problem happening during a ride does not establish that a brand, an app, or an update caused it.

Follow the instructions for your device when a warning appears

For an overheated Pixel, Google advises disconnecting power, moving it somewhere cooler, and not using it until it cools down.Source: Google Pixel: help with a phone that feels too hot.

For an iPhone temperature alert, Apple says to turn the device off, move it away from sunlight, and let it cool.Source: Apple Brazil: iPhone and iPad temperature warnings (Portuguese).

These instructions apply to specific device families. Check your model's manual: we are not setting a universal waiting time, a target temperature, or a way around thermal protection.

Plan your return before accepting another ride

Use the break to decide whether you can continue working, rather than changing several settings without knowing which made a difference. Here is our suggested workflow:

  1. Identify your model and check the manufacturer's instructions before trying adjustments.
  2. Review the mount position while parked; do not reposition it while driving.
  3. Save updates, diagnostics, and comparisons of settings for a time when you are not handling a ride.
  4. Before receiving new requests, check navigation, connectivity, and essential apps. If you cannot use them safely, do not resume your shift.

Heat and a missing offer reading are different pieces of evidence

If an app still fails, prepare a factual report: time, phone model, operating system version, app version, the exact message, and any other affected apps. Say whether there was a thermal warning; do not report a feeling as a measured temperature.

A missing Farol reading alone does not prove overheating. This guide also does not promise that cooling the phone will fix offer reading. Keep useful information for support without exposing passenger names, addresses, bank balances, or other personal data.
